The upgradation work at Gaddafi Stadium is part of the PCB's efforts to prepare three stadiums in Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The other two stadiums are the National Bank Stadium in Karachi and the Rawalpindi Stadium. The tournament will take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025, and will feature seven matches, including the final, in Lahore. Karachi's National Stadium will host the opening match and a semi-final, while Rawalpindi will host five matches, including a semi-final.


The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will mark the return of the tournament after an eight-year hiatus. The last edition of the tournament was held in 2017, when Pakistan emerged victorious by defeating India in the final. The 2025 edition will feature eight teams, including Pakistan, India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, England, and Bangladesh.


The upgradation work at Gaddafi Stadium includes the demolition of existing structures and the construction of new ones. The stadium's seating capacity will be increased, and new amenities will be added to enhance the spectator experience. The PCB has also planned to install new floodlights and upgrade the stadium's drainage system.


The renovation work at Gaddafi Stadium is being carried out by the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), a leading construction company in Pakistan .
